Welcome, English Learners & Immigrant Students!

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our wonderful teachers, students, parents, and administrators and hope that you will visit our department webpage to learn more about our department and the services we provide for English Learners and their families. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions or need assistance.

Who is an English Learner?

Per Title III, Part A law, an English Learner (EL) is any student who answers a language other than English on any of the first three questions on the Home Language Survey (HLS). The student must be given a placement test (screener) to verify whether the student needs English language services and is to be identified as an EL.

Who is an Immigrant Student?

For the purposes of Title III, Part A, the term Immigrants is defined as those students who meet all three of the following criteria:

Someone born outside the U.S. or Puerto Rico, enrolled in U.S. schools for less than three years, and between the ages of three and twenty-one.
